Mr.P.D.Patodia (Chairman)
I am extremely grateful for the unstinted support that we received from the industry in organizing the twin events of CITI’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations and the 3rd Asian Textile Conference on 18th and 19th of March, 2008.
I wish all the readers a happy and prosperous New Year!
For the textile and clothing (T&C) industry, 2007 was a year of problems. The persistent appreciation of rupee against dollar during the year and the resultant erosion in export growth took the sheen out of the industry.
In the September edition of TT, I had discussed the crisis that our industry was facing in the context of the continued appreciation of Rupee and high interest rates prevailing in the country.
The election of the new Team in CITI coincides with some serious problems that the industry is facing. Rupee appreciation, increase in interest rates and high cotton prices – in spite of record crops – are new problems that have been added to those relating to high transaction cost
