ICMF's
Birla Economic and Textile Research
Foundation established in 1983
to encourage and finance research
affecting the textile industry
and allied industries and trades
and also to establish a fund for
carrying out any one or more of
the objects connected with textiles,
formed a textile award called
the Birla Textile Award. The award
is given out every year to outstanding
contributions in any branch of
the textile industry. |

The
objective of the award is to encourage
and finance research affecting
the textile industry, allied industries
and trades including spread of
education. Person or persons who
make substantial contributions
to the advancement and development
in any field touching the textiles
and other allied industries and
trades are recognized through
the awards. The Awards are funded
by the interest, dividend and
other income of the Birla Economic
and Textile Research Foundation.
The initial corpus for the award
was donated by the Birla Group.
The award normally consists of
a citation and a cash award of
Rs.2 lakh. From 2001-02 to 2003-04,
two awards were given for each
year consisting of Rs.2 lakh for
the first winner and Rs.1 lakh
for the second winner. |

The
trustees of the Birla Economic
and Textile Research Foundation,
when it was formed on the 28th
March 1983, were Shri Arvind Narottam
Lalbhai, Shri Kantikumar R.Podar,
Shri Satish Kumar Modi, Dr.Ramnath
A.Podar, Shri Radhakrishna R.Ruia,
Shri Rasesh N.Mafatlal, Shri Kuppuswamy
Rajagopal, Shri Aditya V.Birla
and Hon.Major Ramprasad Poddar.
The present trustees comprise
the Office Bearers of the Confederation
and two representatives from the
Birla group. The current representatives
from Birla group are Shri R.K.Dalmia
and Shri D.K.Agrawal . |

The
first Award was given immediately
after the AGM during 1993 for
the 1992-93 year. The topic for
the first award was 'Achievement
of Cost Reduction'. An amount
of Rs.2 lakh was awarded to the
Process House of M/s.Hindoostan
Spinning and Weaving Mills Ltd
for achieving cost reduction.
