CITI-CDRA DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN RAJASTHAN IN 2008-09 |

CITI-CDRA is implementing the following two projects in Rajasthan during 2008-09 with a total outlay of Rs.39.50 lakhs:- |

|
- Collaborative Project for enhancing Cotton Productivity and Production in Banswara District in collaboration with State Government of Rajasthan and Bayer Crop Science, Mumbai with an outlay of Rs.12.00 lakhs. |
| |
|
| |
|
- Front Line Demonstration Project on Production Technologies and Integrated Pest Management in BAnswarar and Bhilwara Districts under Mini Mission II of TMC with DOCD, Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, as the Nodal Agency, with a budgetary allocation of Rs.27.50 lakhs. |

Banswara District: |

The Collaborative Project for improving productivity and production of cotton in Banswara District with the following important aspects:- |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The Project aims at increasing productivity of cotton in the district by 150% from 470 kgs/ha of lint to 605 kgs/ha in the next three years; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The Project is implemented in the following 9 clusters, covering 100 Gram Panchayats and 562 villages with an area of 9900 hectares and 24500 cotton growers; |

- CITI-CDRA and Bayer Crop Science, Mumbai have developed a team comprising of a project coordinator, a supervisor and 9 scouts to lend technical support and guidance to the project cotton growers in cotton cultivation practices, pest and insect management, harvesting and post harvesting practices. The technical support team is estimated to cost the CITI-CDRA and Bayer Crop Science, Mumbai Rs.12.00 lakhs; |

- State agriculture department is actively involved in all the activities of the project implementation, right from the stage of imparting training to project farmers, advising them timing, periodicity and dosages of fertilizers and pesticides, undertaking inspection and surveillance of cotton crop by field visits, organising Kissan Melas, Village Discussion Sessions, etc. |

|
- Scientists from Maharana Pratap Agricultural University, Udaipur through its ARS Banswara, are also associated in imparting training to project farmers and other related activities connected with the implementation of the project; |
| |
|
| |
|
- Fortnightly cluster wise training programmes are conducted and already 3 such training programmes have taken place; |
| |
|
| |
|
- For facilitating impact assessment of the project, a bench mark survey is being conducted so as to cover at least 10% of the project farmers; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- For monitoring the implementation of the project, a state level and a district level committee is formed. The representative of the stakeholders like – the State Government, CITI-CDRA, Bayer Crop Science, Scientists from Agriculture Universities are members of these committees. On 26th July 2008, a State Level Meeting took place when the progress in the implementation of the project was reviewed. |

Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) on Production Technologies (PT) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM):- |
| |

Apart from the collaborative project, the CITI-CDRA has taken up the project of 400 FLDs on Production Technologies covering 400 cotton growers and 3 FLDs on IPM in 3 clusters of Banswara District. The area covered would be around 775 acres. The highlights of the projects are as under:- |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- 400 cotton growers with one acre each are included in the project implemented in 3 clusters of banswara district; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- Participating cotton growers have been selected by the agriculture department of the state and most of the 400 cotton growers are tribals; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The project cotton growers would receive input subsidy worth Rs.7.10 lakhs; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The farmers are supplied Bt. Seeds worth Rs.3.52 lakhs and pesticides worth Rs.50040/- so far; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- Scientists from ARS, Banswara, Bayer Crop Science and Officers from State Agriculture Departments conducted three training programmes for the benefit of the participating cotton growers; |
| |
|
|
| |
Bhilwara District: |
| |

The CITI-CDRA has taken up 800 FLDs on PT with a budgetary allocation of Rs.16.00 lakhs under MM II of the Technology Mission on Cotton (TMC) allocated to it by the DOCD, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The highlights of the project are as under:- |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The cotton growers were selected by the State Agriculture Department from 5 clusters of Bhilwara District; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- The selected cotton growers include 204 cotton growers from economically weaker sections of the society (SC/ST) and 426 Women Farmers; |
| |
|
| |
|
- The CITI-CDRA has already supplied inputs like – fertilizers and pesticides to the participating farmers worth Rs.9.08 lakhs so far; |
| |
|
| |
|
- The project coordinator and 5 scouts have been deployed to implement the programme and advise the cotton growers on day-to-day basis about the timing, dosages and periodicity of application of fertilizers, pesticides and micro-nutrients; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- Three training programmes have been organized so far for the benefit of the participating cotton growers. The scientists from KVK, Bhilwara and Bayer Crop Science, Mumbai and Officers from State Agriculture Department imparted training to the farmers; |
| |
|
|
| |
|
- A bench mark survey is undertaken for assessing the impact of the project on the participating cotton growers. |
